It's Fall!!!

Last weekend we took a trip to Fog Willow Farms with Jannette, Joe, Gianna, Alana and Angel. In addition to the huge fields of pumpkins, we enjoyed a pony ride and a petting zoo.

I love fall.

First day of 1st Grade!

What better occasion to start up the old blog...

Gavin started first grade this morning. Here are a couple of pictures....

We'll see how it went when I pick him up at 1:18 pm. Yep, not 1:15, but 1:18.

Thanksgiving 2007

We took a last minute trip to Lake Tahoe to celebrate Thanksgiving. Here are some pictures...

We've been up there a few times, but we've only ever gone to the south shore of the lake. On this trip, we drove around the entire lake and found a beautiful photo location overlooking Emerald Bay.

We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner at a buffet at the hotel. Not exactly home cooking, but better than my cooking.

Oh yeah, I have a blog...

So I guess I kind of forgot about this blog thing for a while. I could blame the Gavinator for dropping my camera and sending it into the camera equivalent of a coma, but the truth is that I just forgot about it.

So what have we been up to....Gavin finished his soccer season. He really started to get the idea of the game towards the end of the season. He scored one goal during the first six games or so, and the last four games he scored at least four goals per game. So proud of how much he learned this season. He's pretty proud of his trophy, which he calls his "Piston Cup." I guess we've seen the movie Cars a few too many times.

My awesome Momma came to visit us and we took her to see the Railroad Museum and one of Gavin's soccer games.

Did anyone notice that I made myself into a hidden mickey? Ok, I'm a dork.

We then traveled to Ohio to see Aunt Angie and Brian get married! We had a great time and enjoyed spending time with family that we don't get to see enough.

White Castle sounded really good, so we stopped there on the way to see the soccer game in Columbus.

We soon regretted it while we endured hours of indigestion.

We had fun watching the LA Galaxy defeat the Columbus Crew. We were hoping to the infamous David Beckham, but he was a no show.

The wedding was beautiful. Gavin was the ring bearer and looked very handsome all decked out in his tux.

Well that's probably enough for now. I think it's oddly ironic that I started this blog thing to help me remember what we've been doing, and I can't remember to keep it updated. Sigh. I'm hopeless.

Toothless grin

Well, the tooth that's been loose for a week came out yesterday during lunch at school.

I really thought the tooth fairy was going to flake, but she came through last night with a special treat for Gavin.

What does the tooth fairy do with al the teeth she collects? Maybe she's an artist, and makes huge sculptures out of teeth. Or maybe she's actually a dentist, and melts the teeth down to make new dentures for people. Hmmm.

Gavin's first day of school!

So many new things lately...first sports team, first loose tooth, and now the big one, the first day of Kindergarden.

Gavin's been counting down the days for about two weeks now. He wanted to sleep in his school clothes last night, but I talked him out of it, he didn't want to get them wrinkled. He woke up early this morning and couldn't wait to leave for school. They wear casual uniforms at his school, like a lot of the public elementary schools out here. I like it so far, and so does Gavin. I did go out today and buy him a belt, somehow I forgot to get to him one while we were buying the clothes.

He did great today, he was all smiles, and he was comforting the kids who were upset, telling them they were going to have fun. I'm so proud of the little guy. And I didn't cry either!

I guess this makes me a soccer mom....

So Gavin started soccer this week. He's been looking forward to it for months, as have I. I'm hoping this will let him to expend some of his energy in a productive way. The first practice on Tuesday was really more like playtime with soccer balls than an actual soccer practice, but improvement was evident at Thursday's practice. The Gavinator is a pretty aggressive player...we'll have to try to teach him to hold back a bit. But overall, I think this will be a good thing.

On a related note, Wally has infected the household with a bit of Beckham fever. We just finished watching the LA/NY game, which unfortunately was won by NY. As of a few years ago, I never would have guessed that the first professional athlete that Gavin would recognize would be a soccer player. But, it is what it is. He's turning into a little soccer maniac.

Happy Independence Day!

Happy 4th of July! We've spent most of the day inside, as it's a bit hot outside. This morning we watched our little neighborhood's annual Fourth of July parade. Here are some pictures:

Gavin was a little impatient while waiting for the parade to start

He ended up with quite a bit of candy

There were a lot of cool cars

Gavin found out pretty quickly that waving at people got more candy thrown at him

This cub scout troop wins my prize for best float, which there isn't really a prize for but oh well.

What's Gavin pointing at?

Ah, the cheerleaders

We left about half way through the parade, because Gavin decided he was too hot and thirsty to stay outside anymore. And he ran out of room in his pockets for candy.
Since I have to go to work tomorrow, I think we'll skip the fireworks tonight.

Well we hope everyone had a good holiday!

Words of Wisdom

If you eat 385 popsicles, you'll turn into a popsicle.

Gavin is adamant about this, and it will happen at the precise moment that you finish the 385th popsicle.

Kris' trip, continued...

Today we drove Kris and Dallas back to San Francisco to meet up with Dallas' dad. I took them the long way, to see the scenery in Marin County.

Our meeting place was the Palace of Fine Arts. I've driven past this place dozens of times as I've gotten off the Golden Gate Bridge, and always wondered what it was but never went and explored it. It is an amazing, beautiful gem of a place.

Her dad came armed with plenty of bird seeds to feed the pidgeons and grapes to feed the swans. We had pidgeons eating out of our hands. Gavin also had a blast scaring the pidgeons. He'd let them gather around the pile of seeds, wait for them to get busy eating, and run into them. He was able to do this about at least ten times, and the pidgeons just kept coming back for more.

The palace grounds were amazing. Gavin had made fast friends with Dallas' dad, who he kept calling "the fun guy." I guess I'm not fun enough.

After we toured the grounds, we were treated to a trip inside the Exploratorium, which was so much fun. Gavin loved the exhibits, and he might have even learned a thing or two.

Well that's probably enough pictures. We had a great weekend, and we're so glad that Kris and Dallas were able to visit with us!
